Creative Partnership

“Nature uses only the longest threads to weave her patterns - so that each small piece of her fabric reveals the organization of the entire tapestry.”  Richard P. Feynman

As part of an ongoing creative technology transfer initiative to develop the next generation of structural carbon fiber applications, Via Domani has built a creative partnership with the University of Pennsylvania Weitzman School of Design Architecture program and renowned carbon fiber innovator, Lemond Composites. This research initiative has included seminars at the Yale School of Architecture and at Pratt Institute. Students taking part in the current seminar, “Computational Composite Form Computational Design & Carbon Fiber Robotic fabrication” led by UPenn professor Ezio Blasetti, are developing computational methods and robotic fabrication tools for advanced carbon fiber structures. The result of their explorations will be distilled into a pavilion structure that will be produced in the University’s’ Advanced Research & Innovation Lab (ARI) and exhibited at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice.

These explorations have the potential to revolutionize many aspects of construction, but also may produce fundamental insights into the general use and application of carbon fiber and other textile materials and into robotic manufacturing in many fields. The exhibition will be made possible by the generous support of Dropbox and LeMond and TCR composites.

The press is invited to visit the project in process in April 2020. Please contact us for arrangements.

NOTE: The Venice Biennale has been rescheduled from its regular opening in May. The exhibition preview will open now on August 29, 2020, and run through November 29th, 2020.
